About Tara

Hi friends! I am Tara, a Pharmacist Diabetes Educator based right here in Canberra, a city I proudly call home and where I have embraced my passion for healthcare and have been committed to my community.

As a devoted mother of two boys, I cherish the nurturing environment Canberra provides for my family. When I'm not empowering individuals to live well with diabetes, you'll either find me immersed in quality time with my boys or having a laugh with friends. Outside of that you'll often catch me at the gym. Lifting weights isn't just a hobby for me – it's my way of nurturing both my body and mind. And running has been a passion of mine since my school days. I've even completed two half marathons in London and Sydney, and I'd love to think I could endure a full marathon one day... maybe...

My journey into diabetes education was sparked by a pivotal moment in my own life – a diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes during studies as a Pharmacist. Suddenly thrust into a world of unfamiliar terminology and shifting health dynamics, I found myself navigating uncharted territory at the young age of 22. However, with the guidance of an exceptional Diabetes Educator who served as my beacon of hope, I discovered my calling – to be that guiding light for others facing similar challenges.

Since then Diabetes has never stopped me. From completing my degree to embarking on a pharmacy career, living abroad, traversing the globe for over two years, and of course bringing my 2 boys into the world, my life with Diabetes has been nothing short of amazing. And now, back in Canberra, I have pivoted my career to fulfil my true passion – empowering others to thrive with diabetes too.

With me on your team I hope you'll find more than just expertise and guidance – you'll discover a compassionate ally dedicated to helping you navigate the complexities of diabetes with confidence and resilience.

My Philosophy

In my clinic, I believe in empowering individuals living with diabetes to take charge of their health journey. I see my clients not as patients, but as partners in their own wellness. My philosophy revolves around arming them with knowledge and tools to make informed decisions that align with their unique needs and goals.
Central to my approach is the idea that individuals are not defined by their diagnosis; they are people living with diabetes. Through open, respectful discussions, I strive to create a collaborative environment where clients are actively involved in shaping their care plans. Our consultations resemble roundtable discussions, where guided suggestions are explored and decisions are ultimately made by the client, with my support and guidance.

I understand that managing diabetes encompasses more than just blood sugar levels. That's why my care extends beyond the physical aspects to encompass the whole person – body, mind, beliefs, family, and community. I recognise that each individual's journey is multifaceted, and I strive to address all aspects that contribute to their well-being.

My goal is not just to manage diabetes but to empower my clients to live their best lives. I believe that by making small, sustainable changes today, I can help them achieve better health tomorrow. Together, we embrace the journey towards wellness, acknowledging that every step forward is a victory worth celebrating.
